Within its stone walls and rough lumber beams, iron-wrought coats of arms and marvellous tiling work on the floor, the Cervejaria Brasão fills plates and hearts with the most delicious generosity. Around the well-supplied central bar, small tables are gathered in an authentic Portuguese setting, perfect to focus on the real star here: the Francesinha. According to many regulars, this is one of the very best in town.
This typical Porto dish is almost as famous as the Douro. The story goes that a Portuguese man who had moved to France found the famous croque-monsieur so bland that he decided to adapt it. The famous Lusitanian used slices of white bread covered in cheese, with steak, cooked ham, pork sausage and bologna tucked in between… This creation is then grilled and topped in a house hot sauce. To be tasted ASAP!
