The MAMAC has a collection of 1,000 works that tell the story of artistic creation from the 1960s to the present. Their diversity (painting, sculpture, installations, etc.) sustains interest and curiosity throughout the visit. The venue is composed of a string of pristine air-conditioned rooms whose whiteness brings out the vibrant colours of the great works all the more strongly. Do not under any circumstances miss those devoted to Pop Art and New Realism. There is a surprise in store if you take a moment to breathe in the fresh sea breeze of the bay from one of the building's viewpoints. Yves Klein's Wall of Fire is there, a lone masterpiece. In the same vein, though a little less central, the Villa Arson is an art museum, elite school, and research institution for contemporary art, all in one. Its more open and less linear exhibition space alternates Italian gardens and interiors. There are 1,000 works, against a backdrop of freedom in artistic expression, which offer a challenge how much so is up to you to determine.
