Stock Exchange Palace, one of the city's wonders

Built in 1834, the Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace) remains one of the must-go-to monuments of your stay in Porto.

The Neoclassical façade is a promise in itself, but the wondrous galleries you will discover inside the building deliver even more. Far from a classical construct, the palace exudes surprising exoticism. One must remember that World fairs used to set the example everywhere in Europe at the time. With that notion in mind, the building was designed to really blow visitors away.
Do not miss the most famous room of the whole palace, the immense ball room called Salão Árabe (Arab Room). Built in stucco made of exotic woods coming from Portuguese colonies, the Moorish decor displays 40 pounds of gold finish. According to experts, it is a possible imitation of Granada's Alhambra. Make a final stop in the large dining room: sheltered by a huge skylight, it is decorated with the coats of arms of every country which traded with Portugal at the time.
