Nature and culture sometimes come in pair. Right outside Oslo, experience both in Ramme, where every generation will find something of interest. An organic farm reveals its eco-friendly methods, as well as traditional livestock and cattle farming. All around, a huge park of baroque style includes fountains, flower beds and rose gardens. However, art remains at the core, benefitting from the location of the cultural centre, situated on the former estate of Expressionist painter Edvard Munch (whose old house can be visited), and from the programming of various events. The gallery offers both permanent and temporary exhibitions, mainly concentrating on Scandinavian painters like Frits Thaulow, Theodor Kittelsen and, of course, Edvard Munch himself, who created some of his most wondrous works in Ramme. The selection of his works will put you in the artist's shoes to discover the landscapes that fuelled his imagination until the end of his life.
Theatre plays and concerts complete the cultural centre's abundant offer. Sometimes, the surrounding park is used to stage Shakespeare classics. One must admit that, between the forest and the sea, Ramme dons heavenly clothes. In the words of Edvard Munch, “this place is assuredly the most beautiful on the entire coast”.
