Dance in Paris is showcased throughout the year, in two bespoke locations : the Palais Garnier (which actually groups two venues, the Palais Garnier itself and the Opéra Bastille) and the Palais de Chaillot.
A breath of fresh air wafted across the dance scene since August 2016, when Aurélie Dupont took over as the director of dance at the Opera with the aim to reinvigorate classical ballet in the capital. Productions at the Opera Garnier are nothing less than the best in the world. The former prima ballerina wants highly visual and internationally acclaimed choreographers to showcase the dancers both here and at its sister institution, the Opera Bastille.
The Chaillot National Theatre offers a very international programme (Carolyn Carlson, Mathilde Monnier, Trisha Brown...) that leaves ample room for regulars (Noé Soulier, Thomas Lebrun, Kader Attoun...) as well as long-running shows, often from Avignon. Under the very demanding Didier Deschamps, this is the realm of choreographers.
